This is an entry that been a long time had been in my mind,
but never accomplished by hand. So here I am typing in the midst of midnight,
hoping to share some of my experience to people out there. This time it is
going to be divided into 3 parts; the interview, matrix year, university year
1.
The Interview
I would never thought that engineering is going to be career
someday even though it is my hope to learn technical drawing. Watching my
friends drawing, measuring somewhat attract my attention but that’s all. The
one and only thing that is in my mind is I’m going to be an actuary. Anyway I
saw the advertisement in a newspaper and I thought “let’s give it a try! At
least I managed to get some experience for my future interview”. I applied.
Using my SPM trials result, I managed to pass into the
interview session and be called to the Swiss Garden Resort and Spa Cherating,
Kuantan since I had applied in Pahang region. The big day come. I travel with
my 2 acquaintances and arrived around 8 in the morning. After registration
completed, I entered the exam room. There are 10 candidates (to my surprise for
Kl region, there are about 500 candidates). At 9, the exam begins. It is not
difficult actually but since the brain had been in a holiday for a long time,
it is quite a challenge. Basically the question will be the integration and
differentiation for add math, find moles and molarity, Avogadro’s constant for
chemist and calculating force and energy for physics. Calculator is prohibited
but the number is not so big nor complicated so don’t worry. At 10, the real
interview starts. This interview is pairing interview (each region is
different), so I’m the third along with a confident-looking SSP girl, the
fourth name will be called together. Take note that is not necessary for you to
fight since it is just like a single interview but held at the same time. It is
possible for both to be accepted or neither both are unaccepted. As for me,
this is only a test interview for me so I don’t really feel nervous or sweaty hands
or something like that. Smile, walk with bravery and sit neatly. As usual the
first question is tell me about yourself bla..bla..bla.. then come the
question, why do you choose japan instead of Malaysia? If given a chance what
would you do there? After you graduated, any changes that you want to do in
Malaysia? And last but not least what is the sin/cos/tan 0/30/60/90? The
session completely ended in 10 and after that come the delicious brunch
sponsored by YPM.
In 8 April 2014, I registered at Mara Japan Industrial
Institute, Beranang.
Matrix Year
First year or called the matrix year is going to be the
hardest yet the most enjoyable year among the 3 years education program. This
is the year you are going to learn Japanese language to the daily-conversation-capable
limit. For those who had learn, surely they had advantages but for only a month
(the syllabus that was learned for five years in school were going to be
covered in the first month). You will meet Japanese lecturers and try to get
close as you can. There is also Malay lecturers so they will guide you for
anything that you could not talk in Japanese. In the first semester, the
science subjects are going to be taught in English but in second semester the
‘Japanization’ will be held rapidly.
The best part in this year is the special program semester
that is held for a month. You will experience the Japanese culture and take
part in it such as the art of writing (Shoudo), Japan kite making (Tako) and
Origami plus Kirigami.
Anyway, matrix year are the time you get to know your dear
friends, close to the lecturers and bear the pain of enjoying new languages and
cultures.
University Year 1
Second year or known as University Year 1 (U1) are the year
you start focusing on what you are going to do in future. Realize your strength
and weakness. Tears and joy experience. In this part of life there will be a
lot of challenge especially in learning your major subject (Electric &
Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering). Plus, the final result of
this semester will be considered as the most important as it will be counted
for Japan University entry.
During the first semester both EEE and ME students will
learn the same subjects meaning that major subjects will not be taught yet. The
hardest thing to do for this semester for me is to write your own lab report as
Paper 3 in SPM subjects. Gradually you will earn knowledge and lab report
skills in Japanese as you go through this semester. Then, come the short
semester for 2 months. This is the time for you to learn Malaysian Studies and
Sports Science as it is a requirement for the MQA. In addition, there is also
introduction for you major subjects in this semester. You can actually relax a
little bit in this semester as the classes are only 3 to 4 hours each day. Don’t
forget there will be also final examination even though it is only a short
semester. After that, there you go the second semester of U1. For Mechanical
students you will start to learn Mechanics of Materials and for Electrical
students you will learn Electric Circuit Theory 1. Surely the subjects are
going to be harder, time is getting limited so make sure to work on a study
plan or you will feel the pressure when it’s starting to get though.
